# Turn on Hamla on your Shopify store

> Connecting Shopify is not the last step. One toggle in your theme editor is what actually puts popups and on-site notifications on your storefront.

Connecting Shopify gets Hamla your orders, customers, and abandoned checkouts — that part happens the moment you approve the connection. It does **not**, on its own, put anything on your storefront. Popups and on-site notifications need one more step: turning on Hamla's app embed in your theme.

Skip this and a campaign can be built, activated, and still never appear to a single shopper — with nothing telling you why, other than Hamla itself, which will say so the next time you ask it to build one.

## What you need

* **Shopify connected.** Settings → Your store & website should already show Shopify.
* **A published theme.** The embed turns on per theme, so if you switch themes later, turn it on again for the new one.

## Turn it on

The fastest way is from inside Hamla, not Shopify:

1. Go to **Settings → Your store & website**.
2. Under **Storefront embed**, click **Open theme editor**.
3. This drops you straight into your Shopify theme editor with Hamla's embed already selected — you don't have to find it in the list yourself.
4. Click **Save**, top right of the theme editor.

<Note>
  That button builds a link straight to Shopify's own theme editor, scoped to your store — it needs your Shopify domain, so it only appears once Shopify is connected.
</Note>

## Doing it manually in Shopify

If you ever need to find it yourself — after switching themes, for instance — the path in Shopify's admin is:

**Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds** (the grid icon, top left of the theme editor) **→ Hamla → toggle on → Save**.

Hamla will be listed alongside any other embeds you have installed (review app widgets, countdown timers, other tracking scripts) — it does not turn any of those off, and they do not need to be turned off for Hamla to work.

## How you'll know it's on

Settings → Your store & website shows a status next to **Storefront embed**:

| Status              | Meaning                                                                                                              |
| ------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Not enabled yet** | The embed has never checked in — either it is still off, or your storefront has had no visits since you turned it on |
| **Connected** | Hamla has heard from your storefront at least once |

The same signal is what the AI checks before promising a popup will work. Ask it to build one while the embed is off, and it will say so and hand you the same button, rather than activating a campaign that quietly shows to nobody.
